What did I Walk Into?

Great Foyers and Entryways

After curb appeal, the second chance to make a first impression is your entry way or foyer. The foyer is a hardworking part of your home. It’s the first part of your home guests see and frequently a dumping ground for your family’s belongings—a foyer that is both hardworking and beautiful is key. From bold color choices and statement pieces to strategic storage and timeless furnishings, use these foyer ideas to create a warm welcome in your home. Both the main entrance and the mudroom entrance should be considered if your that entrance is your go to entrance. When considering everything above, don’t forget each piece like, lighting, rugs, furniture, accessories, paint, wallpaper and plants can make a foyer come alive.

Color Drench

Entryways deserve to be completely covered in color, just like the rest of your home. Take inspiration from design firm KOBEL + CO, who swathed this home's mudroom and entry combination in sunshine yellow.

Forgo the Table

Your entryway table should work for your needs—and sometimes that means ditching the table entirely in favor of a comfortable shoe bench and hanging hooks instead.

Fill Your Space

If you're lucky enough to have a grand entryway, use an oversized table to accentuate it. Designer Sheldon Harte opted for a long, almost dining table-like piece to fill the equally expansive pass-through.

Create a Zone

Intentionality is key when designing a stylish entryway, so give guests the immediate opportunity to take a load off when entering your home. A pair of armchairs flanking the decorative entryway table helps to create a relaxing air.

Coordinate with Your Wallpaper

The moody botanical wallpaper in this entryway makes a strong first impression, so to keep it streamlined, all the table accessories align with the print's color palette.

Mirror Your Home Design

Your decorative entryway table should align with the rest of your home's style and aesthetics. Take inspiration from this minimal entryway that perfectly complements the rest of the subdued interior.

Keep Storage Close By

To ensure your entryway is clear of clutter, designer Jeremiah Brent repurposed an unused powder room in this home's entryway to create a functional mudroom. Now, guests can take off their shoes and coats without awkwardly carrying them around.

Mind the Curves

This elegant entry leans into its curves. A gracious staircase spills out into the foyer and sets the tone for the rounded entry table and spherical pendant light. Notice how something as simple as fresh cut hydrangeas on the entry table helps bring life and color inside.

Frame the View

Dressed in warm, earthy tones, this soaring foyer does more than just nod to the desert beyond. An arched glass door frames the landscape, turning the natural surroundings into a focal point. A pair of Louis chairs and an upholstered bench provide a perch to take a load off and take in the view.
